Residents of Zogli in the Wa West District have expressed their frustrations over the lack of kindergarten in the community.
Children in the community trek several kilometres daily to attend school in Guo, which poses a significant burden on them and their families.
Parents in Zogli also express worry about the dangers associated with their children trekking on the lonely bushes to other communities to attend school.
Some of the residents speaking to Info Radio in the community appealed to the government and nongovernmental organizations to support their children’s education by providing them with a Kindergarten.
“We have a major challenge in this community with our children's education. The lack of Kindergarten is affecting our children's education. Children of school-going age have to walk several kilometres every morning to attend Kindergarten in Guo.”
“We are appealing for urgent government and non-governmental support to build a Kindergarten for children in the community,” he added.
The residents said the lack of kindergarten contributes to reduced access to early childhood education and parents need to take time off to transport children and worry about their children’s safety.
Mr Seabah Eugene, a spokesperson for the chief, Naa Sumaila Salifu, also expressed his frustration over the lack of a Kindergarten school in the community. He noted the dangers associated with the children walking daily to Guo to attend school are enormous.
“The road is usually busy with ‘gallamseyers’ riding to site and our children are exposed to road accidents. One of them, who was knocked down by a motor rider says she will not go to school again.”
He acknowledged the effects on the situation on their children school enrolment and appeal for support.
