The National Youth Authority (NYA) in the Upper West Region has said the Wa Multi-purpose Youth Resource Centre in Wa is open to serve both youth and the general public.
Inaugurated on December 3, 2024, by the immediate-past Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, the facility is one of ten such facilities the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government earmarked to establish across the nation.
The facility, which has been christened B.K. Adama Multi-purpose Youth Resource Centre, is the second to be completed, following the earlier commissioning of the Koforidua facility.
Speaking to Info Radio, Madam Vida Addi, Upper West Regional Director of the NYA, said the facility is available to the youth and the general public, describing it as a space for sports, youth activities and various social and community events.
“The center is open, and it’s a facility for so many activities of the youth and the public as well,” Addi stated, emphasizing its broad appeal and accessibility.
She said the facility features various facilities to accommodate numerous sports disciplines including a football pitch, basketball and tennis courts, which offer opportunities for private and public use in recreational sports.
Madam Addi added that the facility has spaces for conferences, weddings, funerals, entertainment events, and church programs and thus, urged for wider patronage.
“We have conference rooms for all conference activities. So we encourage everybody to come and patronize the place,” she said.
Mr. Felix Wurah, the Wa Municipal Director of the NYA, encouraged young people to take maximum advantage of the opportunities provided by the facility to develop their talents.
“Once it’s located in Wa Municipal, I want to encourage all the young people in the Municipality to take advantage of that and develop our talents, be it music, sports, or other recreational activities,” Mr Wurah said.
He noted that while a small fee is required to maintain the facility, the center remains an affordable and accessible resource for the youth in the community.
“Even though it’s not free because of maintenance, we need to give a token to our young people before we use it. So that is one of the opportunities readily available for the young people,” he added.
