Women of Tabiasi appeal for maternity ward

Residents of Tabiesi in the Daffiama-Bussei-Issa District are expressing their concern over the lack of maternal healthcare access in their community.

They are concerned that the absence of a maternity ward at the Tabiesi Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, which is a critical facility for providing healthcare services in the area, is affecting their lives.

The Tabiesi CHPS compound serve as primary healthcare center, and plays a vital role in catering to the medical needs of the people in the community.

However, the lack of a maternity ward has left pregnant women with limited options for safe deliveries and prenatal care, prompting widespread concern among residents.

Mrs. Banaa Abigail, a pregnant woman, said that pregnant women in the community face challenges in accessing proper maternal healthcare services. This puts their lives and the lives of their babies at risk.

She added that the absence of a maternity ward compels pregnant women to travel long distances to access health facilities to give birth. They often encounter delays and complications along the way. Mrs. Abigail also lamented the lack of drugs for pregnant women.

Mrs. Sulemana Akosua said that the situation not only exposes the health and safety of pregnant women but also worsens the already challenging circumstances faced by families in the community.

She indicates that the facility refers patients to other facilities due to the lack of drugs. She also noticed there is only one bed in the unbefitting maternity ward.

The residents of Tabiesi call on government authorities and stakeholders to prioritize the establishment of a maternity ward at the Tabiesi CHPS compound.

They noted the importance of ensuring safe childbirth and better maternal health outcomes for women in Tabiesi and surrounding areas.
