Women farmers in Zinnye appeal for dam to facilitate their farming activities

Writer: Info Radio Info Radio

Women farmers in Zinnye, located in the Wa East District, are making an appeal to the government and NGOs to construct a dam that will facilitate irrigation farming.

They stated that the availability of a dam in their community would enable them to engage in farming vegetables, thereby earning a sustainable livelihood. Even a dugout in the community would assist in boosting dry-season farming.

The Upper West Region has just one rainy season in a year which is not also regular due to climate change. The women also lamented that the pattern of rainfall was very disturbing.

In an interview with Info Radio, women expressed concern that young people in their community were leaving to find better opportunities in the southern sector.

The women believe that they can produce enough food to sustain them through the dry season with the help of a dam or dugouts until the rainy season.

They stated that it would mitigate the impact of the inconsistent rainfall they experience annually as a result of climate change.
