The people of Gudaayiri, a community in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region, are calling on government to provide them with one of its “One Village One Dam” to enable them engage in all year round productive agricultural activities, instead of the age long practice of relying on only rainy seasons. Speaking to Info News, the youth said they idle around with nothing productive to engage in, whenever dry season the sets in, which according to them, is not helpful to their economic lives. They revealed the previous NDC government provided them a dugout, but it has not been able to help their cause. They are therefore calling on the incumbent government to provide them a better dam to enable them engage in productive economic activities in the dry season. ‘’We roam about without having anything productive to do during the dry season. Dry season is also just around the corner. We are appealing to the Nana Addo’s led government, to consider constructing one of its promised ‘’One Village One Dam’’ in our community, so that we can engage ourselves productively during the dry season instead of idling around’’ the people appealed. The ruling new patriotic party, prior to the 2016 general election, made a campaign promise to construct a dam for irrigational purposes in every village within the northern regions as one of its measures towards combating youth unemployment and poverty; dubbed “One Village One Dam” in the three northern regions.
