Women in Kagu, a community in the Wa Municipality, say they could now heave a sigh of relief in terms of accessing potable water after a mechanized borehole has been commissioned for them.
The borehole was among 15 others solely constructed by a Turkish humanitarian organization, the Human Development Association International, HUDAI Foundation so far this year in the region.
Expressing their happiness to their benefactors after the commissioning on Friday, July 22, 2022, the women in the community said the borehole has come in handy to alleviate the suffering they had to endure fetching water.
Madam Samata Salifu, a resident of the community, said they had tough time getting water for domestic usage as they had to spend long hours at the single borehole that served the entire community.
She said they have received the biggest relief of their domestic and industrial water needs as they could now access water at their own convenience without sweat.
Speaking to Info Radio shortly after the commissioning of the borehole, Alhaji Rashid Mahamud, the Regional Manager of Islamic Education Unit, who played facilitation roles in the construction of the borehole, said his outfit received concerns about the water situation in the Kagu community which he took interest in and subsequently reached out to the HUDAI foundation for help.
He said the request was heeded to and the borehole was constructed in few months.
Alhaji Mahamud iterated the charitable standpoint of the donating organization that the water should be accessible by and to all residents of the community.
He further called on the residents to put the borehole to good use and proper care, and that they should feel easy to report any faults with the borehole.
