Water woes worsen in Naro as boreholes breakdown

Osman Tahiru Kaapore

Residents of Naro in the Nadowli-Kaleo District are facing difficulties in accessing clean drinking water.

The community has boreholes, but they frequently break down. According to the residents, these boreholes were installed many years ago and are now in need of replacement.

Madam Aminatu Sangara, a resident, mentioned that although there is a private water provider in the community, many residents cannot afford the fees.

She explained that the community members have contributed money several times to repair the broken boreholes and are now exhausted from doing so. Madam Aminatu appealed to the district assembly to either repair or replace the old boreholes.

The Assembly Member for the Naro Electoral Area, Mr. Kpaamah Haruna Mandela, has stated that the water situation is a significant challenge in the community. He explained that the boreholes keep breaking down due to the pressure on them.

Madam Katherine Lankono, the District Chief Executive, DCE for Nadowli-Kaleo, responded to the community's concerns and explained that the assembly is encouraging communities to take responsibility for maintaining the boreholes provided to them.
