The Paramount Chief of the Wala Traditional Council, Naa Fuseini Pelpuo lV, has launched a public appeal for funds to support a community watchdog committee in response to the recent serial killings in the Wa municipality.
At a short ceremony held at the chief's palace, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV made a seed capital donation of GHS 5,000 to kick start the fundraising campaign. Other paramount chiefs, queen mothers, and individuals also contributed to the fund.
The ceremony was observed by tribal chiefs, queen mothers, young people, and representatives of the regional Chief Imam.
The Paramount Chief's appeal comes as the Wa municipality grapples with a series of mysterious killings, leaving residents in a state of fear and uncertainty.
The community watchdog committee aims to enhance security measures and work closely with law enforcement agencies to prevent further incidents.
The Secretary to the Wa Naa, Jimpenhi Naa Kadri Ibrahim on behalf of the Wa Naa thanked members of the watchdog committee for their dedication and work so far.
“One of the reasons for this ceremony is for the Wa Naa to thank the dedicated committee members who have volunteered to work for the community from the beginning of this unfortunate incident up to now.”
He urged the public to support the security agencies as the investigation is still ongoing to unravel the perpetrators of the mysterious killings. He also appealed to the public to avoid speculations about the arrest of any individual in connection with the serial killings.
“Let the investigators do their job; if the suspect is innocent, everybody will know at the end of the investigation. If he is guilty, I don’t think we will say because he is one of us, they should allow him to go,” he added.
