Wa Youth Multi-purpose training centre ready for commissioning

The B. K. Adama Youth Multi-purpose Training Centre in Wa is ready for commissioning though work on the second phase of the project is still ongoing, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, Upper West Regional Minister has said.

He said President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo was expected in the region next month, August to inspect some ongoing projects as well as to commission some completed projects including the B. K. Adama Youth Centre.

Dr. Salih said this when he led a team of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) including Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) to inspect the facility to ascertain its level of completion and readiness for commissioning by the President.

“With the information that the phase one was completed, I thought it was necessary we come and see things for ourselves and to impress upon the contractor to speed-up with the phase two, but as the project engineer indicated they are being affected by the rains.

“But that notwithstanding, I have had discussions with the Minister of Youth and Sports as well as the Chief Executive of the National Youth Authority, and our minds are the same. We think that the president should go ahead and commission once phase one is completed”, he explained.

Dr. Salih observed that the facility was to complement the Wa Sports Stadium but that it was not to serve as a stadium but as a youth training centre and would be used as such.

On her part, the Project Engineer, Madam Asana Adams, explained that phase one of the project which included the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) standard pitch and four stands – one VIP and media stand and three spectators stand – was hundred per cent completed.

She however said the second phase was 20 percent complete and included a fence wall and drainage systems, and added that it had delayed completion due to the rains.

She, however, expressed optimism that the second phase of the project would be completed within six months and would be open for use.

Mr Isaac Kwame Asiama, the then Minister for Youth and Sports, cut sod to commence the construction of the multipurpose edifice in April 2018, and it was expected to have been completed within the next nine months.

The Centre is designed to have an eight-lane athletic track, FIFA standard football pitch, tennis court, basketball court, handball court, fully furnished gym, counseling unit, ICT section, entrepreneurship centre, and a restaurant.
