Wa West MP to support Eggu Health Centre Laboratory project

The Member of Parliament for the Wa West constituency, Supt (RTD) Peter Lanchene Toobu, has called on the Eggu Health Centre's in-charge and the Assembly Member to submit an official request for GHC 47,140.00, which is needed to complete a vital laboratory project.

Mr Toobu made this appeal during a health durbar in the community, where he acknowledged the challenges faced by pregnant women travelling to Dorimon or Wa for essential lab tests and scans.

While he expressed his financial limitations, he emphasized his commitment to addressing the issues that affect women's health in the area. The Eggu Health Centre, managed by Mr Joseph Dortaa, serves over 6,600 residents and encompasses nine Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) zones.

Mr Dortaa highlighted the laboratory's necessity for improving health outcomes, noting the Centre's success in reducing pregnancy anaemia rates from 70.5% to 20.4% in the 2023/2024 period, as well as addressing maternal deaths and teenage pregnancies.

Despite these advances, Mr Dortaa pointed out several challenges facing the health facility, including staff shortages, lack of boreholes at some CHPS compounds, inadequate housing and bedding at the centre, and poor road conditions, particularly affecting access to nurses' quarters.

The Assembly Member for Eggu Electoral Area, Mr Ephraim Yengyela Dassah, expressed his gratitude to MP Toobu for his ongoing contributions to enhancing healthcare in the region.

Additionally, Wa West District Chief Executive Madam Vida Diorotey assured the chief and residents of Eggu Sub-district that the laboratory project would be completed by the end of the year.
