The District Chief Executive of Wa West, Madam Vida Diorotey has noted that the Wa West District Assembly has offered tremendous support in the area of education which has helped to improve academic performances in the district.
Addressing the people of the district during the 66th Independence Day celebration, the DCE said the District Assembly together with the Member of Parliament has handed over 1,120 dual desks to the District Education Directorate.
She disclosed that a total of 98 basic schools are benefiting from the school feeding programme and that about 1,130 laptops were given to teachers under the one-teacher-one-laptop policy.
The DCE further revealed that a contract has been awarded for the construction of a 3-unit dormitory block at the Wechiau Technical School as well as a supply of 30 beds and 60 pieces of mattresses to the school.
She added that the Assembly provided assorted foodstuff to Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates to motivate them to write their exams.
She thus assured that the district Assembly will continue to place support in the education sector to achieve the objective of the district.
However, Madam Vida Diorotey lamented the challenges that hamper the quality delivery of education service, among such are teacher absenteeism, lack of commitment to work, punctuality, and refusal of teachers to stay in communities where they are posted among others.
Meanwhile, the DCE applauded teachers for the selfless efforts they are putting into producing the country's human resources.
