Wa Senior High School launches golden jubilee anniversary


The Wa Senior High School, WASEC, has launched its golden jubilee anniversary to celebrate 50 years of excellence in contributing to society’s development and national growth.


Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, the Headmaster of the School, Mr Adams Iddrisu Thirdman has appealed for improvement of dormitory and other infrastructural improvements in the school to enhance efficient teaching and learning.

Mr Thirdman lamented over congestion in classrooms, dining and auditorium halls due to the overwhelming number of students, but however announced that the Speaker of Parliament has initiated processes to construct a 2,000-seater auditorium for the school.


He bemoaned the challenges of inadequate water supply and intermittent electrical faults owing to poor and obsolete wiring of buildings.


He also bemoaned the springing up of structures by encroachers giving room for disciplinary concerns as students scale walls around those parts.


The Regional Director of Education, Mr Razak Abdul Korah, said the anniversary celebration and the challenges raised by the headmaster of the school have thrown a task to GES to work to ameliorate the challenges.


He said his outfit has been working hand-in-hand with the management of the school to confront some of the challenges and promised to continue on the same trajectory.

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, the Regional Minister, called on teachers, parents, students and all stakeholders to emulate the sacrifices of the founding fathers of the school for its betterment.


He also called on the alumni of the school to not turn their backs towards their alma mater.


Dr Solomon Dansie, the Wa Municipal President, on behalf of the National President of the old boys association, WASSOSA, Prof Robert Yennah, thanked all stakeholders and asked for their continuous support.


He outlined the activities that would be undertaken during the celebration at a yet-to-be-determined date next year.


The event was attended by a host of dignified alumni including the Lawyer Saeed Abdul Shakuur, State Attorney for Upper West Region; Dr Ewura Suleman Mahama Kandia, DCE for Wa East; Engineer Nadi Imoro Sanda, DCE for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa; Ridwan Abaas, former Member of Parliament for Sissala East, among significant others.


The school has also produced the likes of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Bagbin; former President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Kwasi Nyantakyi, renowned Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Yuoni Kulendi; among others.
