Some residents in the Wa Municipal have expressed their gratitude to the President, John Dramani Mahama, for his recent ministerial appointments.
In an interview with a cross-section of the people in Wa, Info Radio observed that the President’s nomination of the Regional Minister-designate, Mr Puozuing Charles Lwannga and the appointment of the Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment-designate, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, have received widespread approval and high expectations for significant development in the region.
The residents see these appointments as a sign of the president’s commitment to the development of the Upper West Region. Speaking to Info Radio in Wa, the residents believe that having their MP at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment provides them with a unique opportunity to address the issues of unemployment.
“They should work well and bring development and unemployment to the young people in Wa. We thank God for these appointments; this is what we have been praying for the region. If God answers our prayer and we get these appointments, they should try and get jobs for our children who completed school and are currently sitting home without jobs,” a resident stated.
However, the residents highlighted the pressing need for development in various sectors particularly, in job creation, education, infrastructure, upgrading some healthcare facilities, and addressing the poor state of the roads.
Another resident stated, “The region’s road network is deplorable and has to be worked on. Our health is also very important. Some communities still struggle to access health care, and even some facilities need to be renovated.”
Some of the residents called on the president to consider some Members of Parliament from the Upper West Region for Deputy Ministerial Positions for more development in the region.
