A gruesome discovery in Wa has sent shockwaves through the community, as the body of a driver-mate, identified as Richard Opoku, was found with his throat slit at a warehouse in Dobile, a suburb of Wa in the early hours of Monday, July 15, 2024.
This latest victim brings the total number of unexplained killings in the Wa Municipality to 16 in a space of three years. The recent killings occurred on June 18, 2024 when two night security guards were murdered.
Richard according to Info Radio’s sources had accompanied a trailer (long truck) transporting salt to Wa and was invited to spend the night at the salt owner's house. He chose to spend some time on the verandah before retiring to bed, but was found dead the next morning.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and have taken the salt owner and trailer (long truck) driver into custody for further questioning.
The Wa killings have left the community in a state of fear and uncertainty, with many calling for answers and justice.
Mr Ibrahim Zakaria, the assembly member for Dobile, speaking to Info Radio, said the community is living in fear considering how the deceased was killed close to the house.
He mentioned that the community should get involved in finding a solution to the barbaric act rather than allowing it in the hands of only the security agencies.
Dr Hassan Rashid Pelpuo, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, has placed a GH¢100,000 bounty on the killers of these security men.
According to the MP, any person who will give credible information to enable the police to resolve the murder of these security men will receive the money.
