Some residents of the Wa East District have expressed worry about what they consider a lack of development in the district and have called on the leadership of the district to take the necessary action for the development of the area.
They said after two decades of its creation, the development of the Wa East District was at the “speed of a tortoise” leaving the district to grapple with a multitude of challenges that affected the daily livelihood activities of the residents of the district.
They also accused the staff of the Wa East District Assembly led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Dr Ewurah S.K Mahama, of abandoning the district and staying in Wa, which was a setback to the development of the district.
Mr Nalada Hilia Mahama Sampuo, the Convener, raised the concern in Funsi at the weekend in a press conference addressed on his behalf by Mr Alex Jakeri Tuduro, a Leading Member of the South Sissala Unity for Development.
The press conference was to communicate the displeasure of the youth and elders of the district about the reluctance of leadership towards its development needs.
“Our district, the heart of our communities faces a multitude of pressing challenges that affect the daily life of every resident. From the deteriorating conditions of our roads, that hinders mobility and economic activities to the reluctance workers to make homes amongst us and impacting our access to essential services.”
He mentioned that the “SOCO Project in Wa East district has failed. In the heart of the district, Funsi town a road leading to the DCE’s residence has been abandoned by the contractor.”
He stated that the uncompleted road project has turned into a death trap causing accidents in Funsi South.
Mr Sampuo could not fathom why the District Education Directorate would operate from Wa in the Wa Municipality while there was a well-furnished office for the directorate at Funsi currently manned by only the security man.
The aggrieved resident could not understand why the DCE and other key Departmental Heads of the Wa East District Assembly would abandon bungalows allocated to them in the Wa East District capital, Funsi to rot.
Mr Monsugu Togdia, an elder of the Funsi community, told the media after the address that if the workers at the Assembly are not ready to stay in Funsi and work, they should all go and allow different people to come and stay in the community and work.
The aggrieved residents of the area called for immediate action from the office of the Member of Parliament and the DCE to change the face of the district or they would resort to other legal means to get their grievances addressed.
