The 4th edition of the Azumah Resource Ghana Limited annual Volleyball tournament has come to an end with a thrilling performance by the participating teams.
The tournament featured eight teams from the Upper West Region, including Spring Fingers from Nadowli, Supreme Fingers from Wa, Mighty Fingers, City Stars from Wa, Infinite Mercies also from Wa, The Hoppers from Jirapa, Mighty Hands from Nandom and Lambussie Town Team.
The tournament took place at Nadowli Spring Fingers volleyball court from November 11 to 12, marking the fourth consecutive season of the tournament.
Following the completion of the tournament, Mr Solomon Dery, the Senior Community Relations Officer of Azumah Resources Ghana Limited, stated that their aim was to develop cordial relations with the communities they work in through sports.
The defending champions, Spring Fingers, lost their title in the tournament to Wa City Stars in a 3-2 defeat.
The Nadowli-based club beat Supreme Fingers from Wa to progress to the finals to face Wa City Stars, who stunned Mighty Hands from Nandom by 2-0 in the semi-finals.
Supreme Fingers claimed the third position after beating Mighty Hands from Nandom who claimed the fourth position.
The winner of the tournament took home a cash prize of GH₵1000.00.
Mr Awuye Kwesi Godwin, the head coach for Wa City Stars, expressed his happiness after winning the tournament and stated that they were going to train harder to defend the title next season.
Mr. Moses Sumbobo, the head coach for the Spring Fingers, expressed his disappointment after losing the title to Wa City Stars.
The tournament's overall best player was Yahaya Nuredeen from Wa City Stars. He received a certificate and a cash prize.
