The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa Central Constituency, Dr. Alhaji Hassan Rashid Pelpuo, has donated 58 student boxes to the victims of the fire disaster at the Wa Senior High Technical School.
He said the actions of whoever might have been behind the fire incidents could not retard the efforts of the stakeholders in the municipality and the region in getting the students educated and achieve their life aspirations.
While handing over the boxes to the school at the weekend, the MP encouraged the students not to give up on their education due to the fire incidents but to persevere to succeed despite the challenges they faced.
“You are here to be the future of society; we know that somebody doesn’t want to see the future of society brightened. But we want to see the future of society brightened by those of you facing these dangers and are still here to learn”, Dr. Pelpuo explained.
He could not fathom why a person would conceive and execute an agenda to punish the students.
The MP said the donation of the student boxes was to show that leaders of the municipality and the region cared about the welfare of the students.
Dr. Pelpuo indicated that the donation of the boxes would not be the end of his support to the school and that he was committed to going beyond the donation to support the students to ensure they did not disappoint their parents and leaders in society.
The headmaster of the school, Mr Ismail Salih, expressed gratitude to the MP for the donation as it would help sustain the students.
On her part, Miss Munira Seidu, the Girls' Prefect of the school, did not also mince words to thank the MP for the support and said they would put them to good use.
About 114 female students of the Wa SHTS had been displaced by the fire disasters that occurred at the school on Sunday and Monday nights, January 22 and January 23, 2023, respectively leaving two hostel accommodations destroyed.
A third incident occurred Thursday, January 26, 2023, at the school on a classroom block where the affected girls were relocated but the quick intervention of the students brought it under control even before the arrival of the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service.
