The Upper West Regional Hospital has taken delivery of GH₵100,000.00 worth of anti-malaria medicines and other medicinal products from Bliss GVS Pharma Ghana Limited, a pharmaceutical company.
The donation was done through Asterisk Life Sciences as part of the ACT for Africa campaign by the company. The campaign was an initiative towards achieving a malaria-free Africa Continent.
Speaking to the media after the donation, Mr Ibrahim Seidu Mumuni, Medical Representative of GVS Pharma, noted that the donation had been ongoing in the country for the past two with this year being the third year.
He explained that a total of nine hospitals in nine regions would receive the donation this year with the Tamale Teaching Hospital and the Upper West Regional Hospital being the two facilities to benefit in northern Ghana.
Mr Mumuni said they extended the donation to the Upper West Regional Hospital considering the risk of the region suffering high malaria cases, particularly, as the rain sets in, and for that fact that many people would benefit from the donation.
He said that the vision of the pharmaceutical company was to ensure that pharmaceutical products, particularly anti-malaria medications, were available at the doorsteps of Ghanaians and at a lower cost for treatment for patients.
Mr Mumuni indicated that a similar campaign was ongoing in other African countries where Bliss GVS Pharma was operating.
Dr Robert Ameseya, the Medical Director at the Upper West Regional Hospital who received the donation on behalf of the facility, thanked the donors for the kind gesture and said the items will be put to good use.
He appealed for more support in terms of both medicinal and non-medicinal items such as gloves and cleaning agents to the facility.
