Upper West Regional Health Director reassigned to Eastern Region

In a move to strengthen the quality of health service delivery, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reassigned several directors, including Dr Damien Punguyire, the current Upper West Regional Director of Health Service.


With effect from April 14, 2025, Dr Punguyire will take over as the Regional Director of Health Service for the Eastern Region, replacing Dr. Winfred Komla Ofosu, who will be proceeding on compulsory retirement.


Meanwhile, Dr. Robert Amesiya, the Medical Director of the Upper West Regional Hospital, has been reassigned as the Ag. Regional Director of Health Service (RDHS) for the Greater Accra Region, while Dr. Josephat Ana-Imwine Nyuzaghi will take over as the RDHS for the Upper West Region.

Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the AG. Director-General of the GHS in a statement explained that the reassignment of these directors is part of a broader effort to strategically position the Ghana Health Service to deliver on its mandate and improve operational effectiveness and efficiency. The reassignment considered the strengths and unique skills of the directors affected.


“All reassigned Directors are requested to fully participate in the annual performance review meetings of their new Divisions and Regions. As part of the protocols of the Service, all Directors are entreated to comprehensively handover their duties before the effective date of the reassignment,” the statement added.
