Upper West Region has significant agricultural potential- Agric Director

The Upper West Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr Emmanuel Sasu Yeboah, has indicated that the region has the potential to develop through agricultural production.
He said the region has vast arable land and water bodies that can be utilized judiciously to Fast-track its development.
“All the wetlands in the region can be used for rice production and we have to venture into it very seriously. And with the Jospong group coming onboard, they have started posting national service personnel to us to work with. I think it will be something that can boost our food production,” he stated.
Mr Yeboah said this in Jirapa in a presentation on the agricultural sector of the region during the Second Upper West Regional Coordinating Council meeting.
Mr Yeboah said the region was currently one of the major food producers in the country and exported large quantities of food to other regions.
He explained that drought spell is one of the major setbacks in the region.
“Irrigation infrastructure development and utilization are therefore key to boost all year round agriculture that will enhance improve livelihood to the people in the region,” he added.
