Upper West Region Benefits from 3-Day Health Fair Organized by GHS and Norsaac

The Ghana Health Service, in collaboration with non-governmental organization, Norsaac, has launched the “Good-Life Health Fair” in the Upper West Region. The fair aims to promote a good life through the adoption of positive health behaviors.

The three-day event, which began on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, run until Thursday, September 19, 2024, with daily activities.

The event has brought together health staff and specialists to offer screenings and health talks in various health areas for the participants.  Activities like family planning and contraceptive counseling, Malaria prevention methods, Adolescent health talks, and Nutrition and Food demonstrations among others were carried out at the 3-day health fair.

Dr Damien Punguyiri, the Upper West Regional Health Director, underscores the significance of good health and stresses the importance of self-care.

He noted that in a rapidly evolving world, “it is very common to push issues of health and well being to the back bench in pursuit of social and economic advancement, yet good health is an important ingrediemt for socio-economic progress.”

“The fair aims to address critical health issues by providing practical demonstrations, education and access to a wide range of health services,” he added.

Mr Mohammed Awal Alhassan, the Executive Director of Norsaac, commended the Ghana Health Service in the Upper West Region for working so hard to improve all the health indicators.

He noted that health fairs are introduced to promote health literacy and increase access to health services. He admonished service providers at the fair to provide their services with the professionalism expected of them.

“It is not enough to increase health literacy if the empowered society do not translate knowledge to action. And, the only way we can translate knowledge to action is to decide the services that we want to access, the providers must also make sure that those services are avaialable and they provide the services with all the seriousness and with all the professionalism that is expected to go along side that,” Mr Alhassan added.

Mr Hudu Alhassan, the Deputy Chief of Party for the FHI360 Accelerating Social and Behavior Change (ASBC) Activity, urged the public to seek timely and appropriate health services.
