Two suspected kidnappers arrested in Charia Community

Residents of Charia in the Wa Municipality have arrested two suspected kidnappers who allegedly attempted to abduct a child with a disability in the community.

"The suspects' actions are a double affront to our community. Not only did they attempt to kidnap a vulnerable child, but they also tried to desecrate our gods by appeasing them without permission," said Mr. Mwindieye Thomas, a Landlord of the Charia community.

According to Mr. Thomas, the suspects were found with various items, including white cloth, cowries, rings, and a 50 pesewa coin, which are believed to be used for ritual purposes.

"We will not tolerate any disrespect to our gods and traditions. We urge the police to investigate this matter thoroughly and bring the suspects back to our community to purify our gods after the investigation," Mr. Thomas added.

The suspects have been handed over to the police for investigation, and the community is awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

This incident comes on the heels of a series of mysterious killings in the Wa Municipality, which has created an atmosphere of fear and panic among residents. Just a few weeks ago, a driver's mate was killed at Wa Dobile, marking the third such incident in 2024.

The first two victims were night watchmen for the Wa East District Education Directorate and Wa Model Basic School, respectively. The recent spate of killings has left residents on edge, and many are calling for increased security measures to ensure their safety.
