Residents of Tuupuo in the Kunchileyiri Electoral Area are calling for urgent intervention as they remain cut off from vital social services, including healthcare and education, due to poor road networks and an impassable river.
According to the residents, the river becomes a major barrier during the rainy season. This makes it impossible to access the nearest market, health facility, and junior high school (JHS) in neighboring communities like Kunchileyir, Nyoli, and Poyentanga.
"Our children sometimes miss school for over two weeks when it rains because they can't cross the river," lamented Mr. Seeripuo Dare Bongloba, a frustrated resident.
Pregnant women and the sick face even greater challenges. Residents recounted how women in labor struggle to reach health facilities, sometimes risking their lives due to the lack of accessible roads and a reliable health post.
Mr. Zuzee Nomah, another resident, appealed to authorities to establish a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in Tuupuo to provide primary healthcare and reduce the burden on pregnant women and sick residents.
"We are suffering. All we ask is for the government to help us with better roads and a CHPS compound to save lives," Mr. Nomah pleaded.
The residents are urging the Wa West District Assembly and other stakeholders to act swiftly to address the infrastructure challenges and provide them with the basic social amenities they need.
