The Upper West Regional Coordinator for the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) program, Mr Fredrick Vuozie has observed that there will be a bumper harvest of maize and other crops this year.
Speaking on Info Radio's Zienyaanye Upper West program Mr Vuozie observed that there will be a bumper harvest of maize, soybeans and groundnuts this year.
He advised farmers to harvest their crops early in order not to expose the crops to bushfires.
Mr Vuozie touted the successes of the Planting for Food and Jobs program.
"Phase 1 of the PFJ has been beneficial to farmers across the region. From 2017 up to 2021 PFJ has opened up the minds of many farmers to see farming as a business.
Now farmers can harvest about 15 to 20 bags from one acre due to the constant engagement with Extension Officers. Before the program farmers were harvesting just about 3 bags from an acre," he added.
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has launched phase 2 of the Planting for Food and Jobs program.
The initiative, PFJ2.0, known as the Input Credit System, will provide affordable and timely credit specifically designed to meet the needs of farmers.
Through this system, the government aims to improve access to agricultural inputs, foster the adoption of modern farming practices and technologies, and ultimately catapult the agricultural sector to new heights.
