The Wa West District Assembly has presented sewing, weaving and hairdressing machines to 150 women in the district to help improve their work.
It formed part of the implementation of the Gulf of Guinea Nothern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project in the district.
The items were: 50 sets of weaving machines and stools, 50 sets of sewing machines, tables and chairs and 50 hair dryers.
Ten Village Savings and Loans, (VSLA) boxes were also presented to ten women groups in the district, with each group comprising about 30 members.
Speaking at a brief ceremony at the Wa West District Assembly on Monday to present the equipment, the Wa West District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Vida Diorotey, explained that the machines would help enhance their work output, which would translate to improving their economic conditions.
She said that would help enhance social cohesion and reduce their vulnerability to being lured into fomenting trouble, especially during this election season.
She urged the beneficiaries to use the machines to help improve their livelihoods.
Madam Dorothy indicated that the SOCO project was one of the government interventions under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to improve the livelihood of the people, especially the vulnerable and women.
While mentioning some projects the district has executed under the SOCO project, Madam Diorotey said the NPP was the only party that has the needs of vulnerable people at heart.
She acknowledged the commitment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to developing the district. She said, for instance, that the Wa West District was created by the NPP during the regime of former President John Agyekum Kufuor to bring development to the doorstep of the people in that area.
The DCE, therefore, appealed to the people in the constituency to reciprocate the good interventions and support of the NPP government by voting for the Wa West Constituency Parliamentary candidate and Dr Bawumia to win the upcoming elections.
Mr Yango Crispin, the Wa West District Coordinating Director, warned the beneficiaries against selling the equipment they have received and that anyone caught in that act would be punished.
Some women who received the machines thanked the government and the leadership of the Wa West District Assembly for the support since it will help enhance their businesses.
Madam Rahamatu, a beneficiary from Dorimon who received a sewing machine, said it would help enhance her work because she was using an old machine which easily broke down, affecting her work output and meeting her customers’ timelines.
