The Sankana Traditional Council has congratulated Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for her historic election as the first female Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang was honoured with a traditional leadership title for her immense contribution to the development of the Sankana Traditional Council. The honorary title of Pognaa Piirima was bestowed on her by the Sankana Traditional Council during the 2024 Kalibi Tigri Festival celebration of the people of Sankana.
Mr Eric Dakurah Faanuba, Secretary to the Sankana Naa, Naa Pagraninge Sakoe Mornah III, reading a press statement in Sankana on January 15, 2025, mentioned that the traditional council takes pride in Professor Opoku Agyemang's achievement.
“The people of Sankana take particular pride in this achievement, as you are not only the Vice President of our beloved nation but also our esteem Queen Mother, Pognaah Piirima Maaluuma of the Sankana Traditional Area.”
“Your ascension to this high office is a momentous achievement that reflects your distinguished leadership, unwaring dedication to public service, and lifelong commitment to education and national development,” the statement added.
The statement noted that the historic election of Professor Naana Jane Opoku- Agyemang is an inspiration to the people of the traditional council, particularly to women and young girls.
The Sankana Traditional Council also congratulated President John Dramani Mahama and the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sunmana Kingsford Bagbin.
The traditional council expressed hope that President Mahama would fulfilled his campaign promises to improve the lives Ghanaians.
“Health they say is wealth. Free Primary Health Services will be provided, Mahama Care and the promise to complete the NPP Agenda 111 just to attend to the health needs of the people. Issues of education will be dealt with. Above all agricultural productivity will improve. You have done it before so we know you will solve the problems for us.”
The Sankana Traditional Council disclosed that it will soon confer a chieftaincy title on Mr Alban Bagbin to demonstrate their appreciation for his works in the community and Ghana.
“Sankana as a community is proud of you as our former MP, uncle, inlaw and above all as a Speaker of Parliament for two terms running. Soon, the Sankana Traditional Council will confer a title on you to demonstrate how proud we are for having you.”
