Residents of Tanina in the Wa West District have appealed to the government and the district health directorate for the elevation of their Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound to a Health Center.
The residents made the appeal at a community health durbar at Tanina on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
The Wa West District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Vida Diorotey, the District Health Director, Madam Cecilia Kakariba, and Member of Parliament (MP) Representative among others attended the durbar.
Speaking at the event, the Assembly Member for Tanina Electoral Area Mr Seidu Kassim said the population of Tanina is populous which needs to have a Health Center but the facility remains Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound.
The community members have taken initiatives to put up a maternal ward while appealing to the district health director to elevate the facility.
The Clinician of the CHPS Compound, Mr. Baba Abdul Latif, said the about 3000 people population of Tanina, who are supposed to be visiting the CHPS compound for healthcare, do not as many people rather prefer going to Wa or Ponyentanga for healthcare service.
The Physician Assistant, Mr. Kutina Emmanuel lamented that the CHPS compound has recorded low attendance of prenatal care and postnatal care at the chips compound.
The District Health Director, Madam Cecilia Kakariba urged the Chiefs and people of Tanina to continue putting in their effort to get nurses accommodation and to meet other conditions before the facility can be elevated.
Madam Seidu Rahinatu, a resident of the community, indicated that the CHPS compound has been recording low attendance because of the lack of refrigerator to store essential drugs and enhance quality service delivery.
