People of Takpo in the Nadowli\Kaleo District of the Upper West Region have appealed to town authorities to consider mechanizing the only borehole at the community’s CHPS Compound for easy access.
According the residents, the borehole, when mechanized, could be connected directly in to the facility for easy use, instead of nurses and relatives of patients walking up and down to the borehole to fetch water.
Speaking to Info Radio’s thought provoking and discerning morning show, “ZIENYAANYE UPPER WEST”, Miilu Babel, who is the Unit Committee Chairman for the Takpo Electoral Area, said that patients wallow in pains and discomfort anytime they visit the facility and there is the need for water to perform some operations.
Speaking further on the health situation of the community, Babel, laments the unavailability of a maternity ward at the facility which he said is a major source of worry to expectant mothers.
He said that pregnant women in labour, in critical situations, have to be referred to other health facilities at distant, yet bad road networked communities.
The Unit Committee Chairman further bemoaned the lack of accommodation for staff of the health facility.
Touching on the staff strength of the health facility, Babel revealed that the facility does not have enough nurses to cater for their health needs.
While calling on the Ghana Health Service to post more nurses to the community, the residents also appealed to the government, philanthropists and Non-Governmental Organizations to come to their aid.
