Residents of Sombo Extension open new roads in the community, appeal for support

Some residents of Sombo Extension along the Dorimon road have taken the initiative to open roads within the community to ease vehicular movement in the area.

The people, through their contributions, have extended electricity and water to the community and have taken it upon themselves to open roads in the area.

During a visit to the community by Info Radio on Sunday, it realized that a bulldozer machine was clearing the road.

Speaking to Info Radio in an interview in the community, Mr Thomas Barka Tanibe, a resident, said they have run out of funds in the opening of the road and appealed to the leadership of the Municipality and benevolent individuals to come to their aid by supporting them to reshape the newly opened roads.

“We have seen that the place is developed but there is no road from the main Wa-Dorimon road entering the community. We realized that with the way things are moving, we need to help ourselves by contributing to open the roads ourselves.

We are now appealing to any God-fearing person or institution to help us. Where we have gotten to we are stranded so anyone especially the Municipal Assembly and politicians, the Wa Central MP and the Speaker of Parliament to pity us and help us work on the road”, he explained.

He said they have written a letter to the Wa Municipal Assembly for support but the help is not forthcoming.

Mr Tanibe added that they are now financially exhausted due to the many self-initiated interventions for the community and needed external support.

Talking about the electricity, he indicated that the community contributed and procured electricity poles and wires and hired a contractor to work on it.

“After we wired the community we were asked to pay money for the meters. We spent over GHS4, 000.00 each before we could get lights in our houses”, he explained.

Mr Tanibe indicated that the community also contributed and extended water from Ghana Water Limited to the community to ease the difficulties they went through to access clean and safe drinking water.

“What is now worrying us the road and are pleading that anybody who can help us should come to our aid. We have done our part as a community, what we need now is external assistance”, he stressed.

Mr Abubakari Seidu, Assembly Member for Sombo Electoral Area, commended the people for the initiative and appealed for support to finish the project.

He also appealed for streetlight bulbs for the community to help improve security in the community following the serial killings recorded in Wa in recent times.
