Residents of Ombo, a community in the Nadowli-Kaleo district are appealing to the government and the Ministry of Education to rehabilitate the Ombo R/C Basic School.
In an interview with Info Radio in the community, Mr Francis Mombo, a parent, said the primary school block’s windows and the doors have fallen off. He mentioned that inadequate furniture is also a major challenge for the school.
Mr Mombo noted that the district assembly gave some furniture to the school but they have all broken.
“The doors and windows have all fallen off. So, one of our challenges is school infrastructure. So, if anybody needs this community’s support in any way, you have to solve the challenges in our school before. We would no longer listen to sweet promises from anybody,” he stated.
Mr Eugene Yendaw, a former assembly member for the community, added that the lack of accommodation for teachers is a major challenge since teachers have to commute daily to the community. He noted that providing teachers’ accommodation in the community will ensure effective teaching and learning.
Some parents bemoaned the deplorable conditions at the school. They accused successive governments of neglecting the school.
“Our school does not have furniture. We have been neglected by the Nadowli-Kaleo district assembly,” a parent lamented.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the area, Mr Azeez Anchiehe, noted that the district assembly in last year included the renovation of the Ombo R/C JHS block to their budget, but they are yet to renovate the school.
He added that the Kahaa KG was constructed with bricks by the parents of the community and also yet to see government interventions.
