Residents of Kamahegu share water source with animals

The people of Kamahegu, a farming community in the Bussei East Electoral Area of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) District, say they share a common source of water with animals due to inadequate portable water sources in the community.

The residents lamented about the stress they go through in accessing water.

Info Radio, through its community engagement drive of giving voice to the voiceless and the under-represented, visited the Kamahegu community to ascertain some challenges affecting the people in the community.

Madam Theresa Maanbo, a resident, said they have to spend valuable hours at the borehole before they can get a basin of water for a domestic used.

She said the situation most often results in misunderstandings and brawls among women and their spouses.

She indicated that their health is at risk due to the use of unwhoesme water in the community.

Madam Elizabeth Yipogtuo, also a resident, said they still drink from streams and wells. She added that they can contract water borne diseases from the streams and wells.

Madam Yipogtuo stressed that they will not vote in the 2024 general elections if nothing is done about the water situation confronting them in the community.
