The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has urged the public to report instances of fire outbreaks on time to enable the Service take immediate actions to dowse the fire before escalating into unquenchable levels.
Mr Adams Issahaku (DO III), Substation In-Charge at the Upper West Regional Headquarters of the GNFS, said this in an interview with Info Radio on Tuesday to mark this year’s Fire Safety Week.
He warned that when the fire is allowed to reach ravenous levels, no amount or specialty of a fire team can surmount it.
He said fires are better controlled when still in the insipient stages, but when normed to a high level, it becomes impossible to dowse.
Mr Issahaku said every fire emanate from a source, usually a heat source, and thus admonished occupants at homes and personnel at workplaces to pay keen attention to heating devices and heat sources.
He noted that some fires also start as a result of carelessness on the side of people and non-adherence to safety protocols.
He further admonished households and institutions to install fire alarms, smoke and gas leaking detectors at their premises to detect early signs of fire danger for swift intervention.
He urged users of Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) to regular check their cylinders for leakages and replace all faulty parts.
This year’s Fire Safety Week celebration is on the theme: “Safe Environment; Key to Investment.”
