Over 220 students of Dorimon D/A Junior High School in the Wa West District have been left stranded after a rainstorm ripped off their school block.
The incident occurred on Monday, June 10, 2024, leaving the students without a place to attend classes. The destructive rainstorm also damaged electrical cables and furniture in the classrooms, making it impossible for academic activities to take place.
Residents of the community are deeply concerned for the welfare and education of their children.
Mr. Zinenuba Sumache, a resident speaking on behalf of the chief of Dorimon, appealed to the government and benevolent organizations to provide assistance in re-roofing the school.
He emphasized that the school, constructed in 1947 through communal labor, has not seen any major renovation since its establishment. While the structure itself remains strong, the roofing has been severely damaged by the storm.
The Parents Association (PA) Chairman of the school, Mr. Amadu Karim, expressed disappointment about the disaster at the school, especially considering that the school was already congested prior to this incident.
Furthermore, the Assembly Member for the Dorimon Electoral Area, Mr. Fuseini Saaka, highlighted the crucial role of the school as a BECE Centre and for inter-school activities in the district.
He joined the appeal for urgent support from the government and benevolent organizations to facilitate the reroofing of the school and ensure the continuity of education for the affected students.
