Project economic potentials of communities in Upper West – Information Minister urges journalist

Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has called on media practitioners in the Upper West Region to project the economic potentials of communities in the region to attract investments.


The minister who made the remarks in Wa on Saturday, prayed journalists to go beyond holding duty bearers responsible and reporting the happenings in communities and project the economic possibilities in these communities.


Mr Nkrumah was worried that even though journalists have the responsibility to projects their communities, little is done in that regard.


“There are many communities with a lot of potential, but unfortunately the media are not doing enough in promoting our local communities and the economic opportunities in order to attract the kind of investment needed to these communities,” he claimed.


Mr Oppong Nkrumah indulges journalists to serialize their stories and identity those that promote the local communities and give them much priority.


He therefore urged journalists to make conscious efforts to bring to light potential business and investment opportunities in the communities to the outside world.


“You as journalists play a very critical role in the development of local communities and the country at large and I want to urge you to consciously promote the opportunities in the Region and the country at large in order to attract investment to complement what the government is doing,” he said.


The minister asserted that promoting the economic opportunities of our communities is the only way to attract jobs, investors to these communities.


He was optimistic that when that is done, the true potentials of the region would be realized.


The Information Minister, also Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency was on working tour of the five regions of the north engaging with journalists.
