Police, military personnel deployed to Kaleo to enforce a court injunction

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces were on Friday deployed to Kaleo in the Nadowli-Kaleo District to enforce a court injunction on the planned outdooring of the Paramount Chief of Kaleo.

Info Radio gathered that the Ghana Police Service secured an injunction against the outdoor ceremony due to its inability to provide security for the people during the event.

However, at about 10:00 a.m. on Friday when Info Radio visited the scene, it was observed that many police and military officers were seen at the proposed venue for the outdooring at the forecourt of the Chief Palace at Kaleo to enforce the injunction.

Info Radio counted three police pick-up vehicles and a military vehicle at the venue. Some residents of Kaleo who spoke to Info Radio at Kaleo could not understand why the police could not provide personnel to provide security during the exercise but could get personnel to enforce the injunction.

Info Radio witnessed a near scuffle between the police and the civilians at the chief palace when the police prevented some chiefs from other communities from accessing the chief palace, which angered the people.

However, calm was restored before Info Radio left the scene at about 11:20 a.m. after some senior police officers and some leaders of the community intervened to calm the angry civilians and police officers.
