The Chiefs and people of Tampaala, a community in the Jirapa Municipality, have enacted bylaws to end violence against girls in the community including child, early and forced marriages.
Pognaa Mary Lily Bacheyie, the Queen Mother of Tampaala, who revealed this to Info Radio, indicated that the initiative has helped reduce the menace of child/early marriage.
She said this in an interview with Info Radio at Tampaala during a durbar to climax the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence campaign by ActionAid Ghana.
Pognaa Bacheyie indicated that through the intervention of ActionAid Ghana, they had established combat groups in the community against violence against women and girls.
She explained through the combat groups, they were able to rescue more than ten children from child marriage in the community.
