Naa Puowelle Karbo III, the Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area, has appealed to the government to ensure the timely completion of projects it started in the Lawra Municipality.
He identified such projects to include the Dikpe Bridge, the ultra-modern Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institute at Tolibri, the Lawra Senior High School Assembly complex, the Kambaa irrigation project, and roads among others.
Naa Karbo, who made the appeal on Wednesday when the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, called on him as part of his visit to the Upper West Region, said those projects would help improve the livelihoods of the people in the area when completed.
The Vice President also visited the Sissala East Municipality where he interacted with the chiefs and elders and cut sod for the construction of an Astroturf in Tumu, and also visited the Sissala West District to interact with the chiefs and elders and inspected the Agenda 111 project at Gwollu.
He also called on the chief and people at Duori in the Jirapa Municipality to pay homage to Simon Diedong Dimbo, a founding member of the Danquah-Dombo-Bussia tradition, now the New Patriotic Party (NPP) party.
“The implementation of these projects will leave a lasting legacy of your government in Lawra and my paramountcy as the government that brought the most projects in the area.
“Since assuming this high office of Vice President you have brought dignity, respect prestige to that office”, Naa Karbo said.
At Duori, the Vice president was conferred with a chieftaincy title “Naa Liewae” (the chief has returned) as a symbol of unity and friendship between the Dombo and Bawumia families.
Naa Dombo, chief of Duori, said the chieftaincy title conferred on the Vice President was a symbol of welcoming the Vice President into the Dombo family.
The Chief used the opportunity to appeal to the Vice President to take the necessary steps to ensure the Duori community and by extension, the Jirapa Municipality received its fair share of the national development.
He cited the bad nature of the roads and the high youth unemployment in the area as some of the challenges affecting it and called for the government’s intervention in that regard.
On his part, Vice President Bawumia said the chieftaincy title was, among other things, a symbol of the closeness between the Dombo and the Bawumia families.
He said the title is not just a personal title but a lot of responsibility that has been given to him because Simon Diedong Dombo lived for a whole generation of people.
“I hope that I can do likewise and carry the torch that he was carrying throughout his political carrier and be selfless, and be transparent and serve my people with integrity”, Dr. Bawumia said.
Vice President Bawumia observed that the government was committed to improving the livelihoods of the people through the implementation of various projects across the country.
He gave the assurance that the president Akufo-Addo-led government would work to complete all the projects it had started in the municipality.
The Vice President, therefore, asked for the chief’s continuous prayers and support for the president in its development agenda.
