Over 1.4 Million Ghanaians to Benefit from AGAMal’s 2025 Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS)

AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Control (AGAMal) has announced the launch of its 2025 Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) campaign, set to commence on Monday April 7, 2025, and run for 11 weeks until June 20. This ambitious program, in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), aims to protect over 1.4 million Ghanaians from malaria, aligning with the country’s 2024–2028 malaria elimination strategy.

The campaign will target 16 districts, which include all 11 districts in the Upper West Region and three in the Upper East Region (Kassena Nankana West, Builsa North, and Builsa South), along with two districts in the Ashanti Region (Obuasi East and Obuasi West). AGAMal will deploy specially trained spray operators who will apply World Health Organization-approved insecticides, Vectron T500 and Fludora Fusion, to the interior walls of homes. These insecticides not only provide year-round protection against malaria but are also odourless and non-staining, significantly enhancing their appeal to residents.

This vital public health initiative is fully funded by the Global Fund, with additional support from AngloGold Ashanti, ensuring that the service remains free for all residents in the designated operational areas. In addition to its health benefits, the IRS campaign is expected to create approximately 1,400 temporary jobs, contributing positively to the local economy and fostering livelihood opportunities within the communities it serves.

AGAMal's leadership emphasizes the importance of community involvement in this campaign. "We urge all residents to actively participate by welcoming spray teams into their homes. Together, we can take significant strides toward eliminating malaria for good," stated Isaac Kwakye-Appiah, Manager of Communications at AGAMal, in a recent press statement copied to Info Radio .

As Ghana gears up for this impactful campaign, the collective effort aims not only to safeguard public health but also to empower local communities in their fight against malaria.
