A former Assembly Member of the Nyoli Electoral Area in the Wa West District, Madam Ayishatu Amadu Tipeani, has called on stakeholders to support the school at the Nyoli community with furniture to save the children from lying on their bellies to receive academic instructions.
She said the school population was growing but that the lack of furniture is affecting academic activities.
Madam Amadu made the call at Nyulo on the sidelines of a programme to hand over water facility to the Nyoli community.
According to her, the major concern of the school to the community leaders and parents was the rampant teenage pregnancies and school dropouts among school girls due to the lack of water at the community.
She said the girls used to go and visit their boys under the guise of going to fetch water at the stream and end up becoming pregnant.
She however said the water issue has been solved and the teenage pregnancy reduced but that the lack of furniture is now a major problem as far as academic activities at the community is concerned.
Madam Amadu also observed that the CHPS compound facility at the community is inadequate to meet the health needs of the people of the community and surrounding communities.
She said pregnant women have to trek to either Ga or other facility before she can access maternal health service, especially skilled delivery.
She therefore appealed to the Wa West District Directorate to provide the needed infrastructure and to upgrade the CHPS at the community to a clinic.
