Residents of Nyagli in the Guo Electoral Area of the Wa West District are expressing growing frustration over the lack of electricity in their community.
The residents speaking to Info Radio say the absence of power is hindering their development and creating a wide gap between the community and others who have access to electricity.
According to the residents, the lack of electricity is negatively affecting their daily lives, businesses, and overall well-being. Many have outlined business plans that require a reliable power supply to implement, but the absence of electricity has stalled progress and economic growth in the community.
"Electricity is essential for any form of development. Without it, we are left behind while other communities are moving forward," one resident stated.
The impact extends to education as well. Students in Nyagli struggle to study effectively at night due to the lack of lighting, creating a disadvantage compared to students in other communities with electricity.
"Our children cannot compete academically with others when they have to study under poor lighting conditions or not at all," a concerned parent explained.
Speaking on behalf of the youth in Nyagli, Mr Osman Mornah expressed concern about how the situation is affecting young people in the area.
"The lack of electricity limits opportunities for the youth. We cannot explore business ideas, access information, or use modern technology. It’s putting us at a serious disadvantage," he said.
The residents are calling on the government to take immediate action by connecting the community to the national grid. They believe that access to electricity will unlock new business opportunities, improve education, and enhance the overall quality of life in Nyagli.
"We are not asking for much — just the basic necessity of electricity to allow us to grow and develop like other communities," Mr Mornaah added.
