Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd.) - NDF Chairman
The Northern Development Forum (NDF) has issued a passionate appeal for peace in Bawku, citing the resurgence of violence and the tragic loss of innocent lives as deeply concerning. The organization, representing the interests of citizens from Northern Ghana, expressed dismay at the unrelenting clashes that have plagued the Bawku region over the past r years, urging authorities to take immediate action to restore tranquility.
In a statement released to the media and copied to Info Radio, NDF Chairman Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd.) lamented the ongoing violence, which has forced the redirection of essential resources away from development initiatives towards security measures. “The peoples of Bawku and its environs have witnessed untold suffering,” he said, highlighting the toll of conflict on communities and individuals. “Citizens of Northern Ghana are completely dismayed and traumatized by the intensity of the recent clashes.”
The NDF voiced concern over the apparent lack of a comprehensive government strategy to address the underlying issues fueling the violence, referring to the perpetrators as “agent provocateurs” who threaten the fabric of social cohesion in the area. Major Don-Chebe called on the government to exercise its authority effectively to sanitize the environment and promote lasting peace.
In a powerful message urging unity, the NDF appealed to the people of Northern Ghana to reconsider the futility of resolving disputes through violence, especially those stemming from minor ethnic and cultural differences. “Unless we the people of Northern Ghana unite in one accord in the pursuit of peace and development, we will dissipate our energies and resources in never-ending conflicts,” he warned.
The organization emphasized the importance of embracing the rich cultural diversity of the region as a driving force for cooperation and development instead of division. “We should continue to cherish the richness and diversity of our cultures,” Don-Chebe stated, urging citizens to set aside weapons and focus on collaborative efforts to enhance community well-being for future generations.
As Northern Ghanaians continue to grapple with challenges such as poverty and illiteracy, the NDF's call to action has resonated with many who yearn for an end to the violence and for a stable environment conducive to growth and progress.
The NDF, a non-partisan organization, aims to promote peace and development across the five Northern Regions of Ghana and ultimately for the equitable advancement of the entire nation.
