In a move that has sparked excitement and optimism across the Upper West Region of Ghana, Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing has been appointed the new regional minister by President John Dramani Mahama. The 47-year-old lawyer, who doubles as the regional scribe of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is determined to usher in a new era of leadership aimed at bolstering development and addressing prevailing challenges within the region.

In a recent interview with Info Radio, following his announcement as minister designate, Puozuing expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Mahama for entrusting him with this significant role. “I want to extend my sincere appreciation to His Excellency President Mahama for offering me this opportunity to serve the good people of the Upper West Region,” he stated. “I am fully committed to supporting the president and the NDC government as we work together to fulfill our campaign promise of resetting Ghana.”

Puozuing’s commitment to youth empowerment stands out as one of his key objectives. He promised to create opportunities for young people in the region, emphasizing job acquisition and skill development through initiatives like the NDC’s "1 Million Coding and Apprenticeship Programs." This initiative targets equipping the region’s youth with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

“I believe that investing in our youth is crucial for the long-term prosperity of the Upper West Region,” emphasized Puozuing. “Through these programs, we will create jobs and empower our young people to become significant contributors to the economy.”

Equally high on his agenda is the improvement of the Upper West Region’s deteriorating road networks. "Good roads are the backbone of economic development. They facilitate easy movement of goods and services, creating an environment conducive to trade and commerce," he stated. Puozuing plans to actively engage with the central government and relevant agencies to rehabilitate the region’s roads and establish connections between districts and municipalities.

Lawyer Puozuing is also acutely aware of the ongoing land conflicts that have plagued parts of the Upper West Region. He plans to resolve these conflicts by initiating an all-inclusive land administration system that involves the Lands Commission and traditional authorities. “Land disputes hinder progress and development,” he asserted. "By fostering collaboration and dialogue among all stakeholders, we aim to find equitable solutions that respect the rights of all parties involved."

The appointment of Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing has generated a wave of positivity among residents and supporters of the NDC in the Upper West Region. In conversations with Info Radio, many expressed their appreciation for the president's decision and expressed hope in Puozuing's ability to prioritize the development needs of the region.

A resident of Jirapa, expressed, “We believe that Lawyer Puozuing has the experience and the vision to drive meaningful change in our region. We are hopeful that he will work towards addressing our pressing issues.”

NDC supporters in Wa echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for unity in the region. “It’s vital that the new minister fosters an inclusive government that takes into account the voices and aspirations of all residents. We want an open-door administration that will truly benefit everyone,” said another supporter.

A native of Sabuli, a farming community in the Jirapa municipality, Charles Lwanga Puozuing brings a personal understanding of the challenges faced by the region's residents. He is married and is a father to three children—two girls and a boy. His background and dedication to his family reflect his commitment to bettering the lives of all families in the Upper West Region.

As Puozuing prepares to assume his new role, the sense of hope among the people of the Upper West Region is palpable. They believe that with strong leadership, a focus on critical infrastructure, youth empowerment, and conflict resolution, their region can take significant strides toward development.
