Bernard Mornah, presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has stated that no Ghanaian child will be born poor under his tenure as president of Ghana.
According to him, every Ghanaian child born would have a bank account where they will benefit directly from the proceeds of the nation’s natural resources.
Mr. Mornah announced that a percentage of the proceeds would be saved in each child's account, which can only be accessed by the child when they turn 18.
He made this announcement during a courtesy visit to various stakeholders, including the Wa Naa, the Yerinaa, and the Regional Chief Imam, over the weekend.
He was accompanied by the National Secretary, Awudu Ishaq, regional, and constituency executives of the PNC.
Mr. Mornah stated that Ghana possesses natural resources like gold, cocoa, timber, oil, and others that, if managed well, could transform the country's economic fortunes.
"I stated that when I become president of Ghana, no child in Ghana will be born into poverty. When the government sells our resources, it will take its share, and the remainder will be distributed among the Ghanaian citizens to help them develop and improve their lives.
“Every child born today will have a bank account by the time they reach one month, but no parent or relative would be able to access the savings in the account until they turn 18,” he stated.
Mr. Mornah emphasized that every child would save at least GHC300.00 from the moment of their birth until they turn 18 years old.
The PNC presidential candidate also pledged an amount of GHC5, 000.00 in support of the Regional Chief Imam’s educational endowment fund.
