Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye II, Leader of Niator-Buwa (Zini) Traditional Area (Buwa Kingdom) in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region, has filed to contest the Upper West Region Council of State representative position.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the commencement of the nomination process for the election of Regional Representatives to the Council of State, as stipulated under Paragraph (C), Clause (2) of Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution.
Eligible candidates must submit their completed nomination forms along with two copies of a recent bust-sized photograph against a red background showing their full face and ears.
Submissions will be accepted at the respective Electoral Commission Regional Director’s offices from 28th-31st January 2025.
Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye II, who is also the President of the United Traditional Rulers Association, Ghana, outlined his vision in a statement when elected to represent the region at the Council of State.
He noted that he will leverage his wide network and links with national and international organizations and nongovernmental organizations to pull development to the Upper West Region if elected to represent the region.
“I have made and I am still making many strategic efforts, both locally and internationally, for 10years now, with the sole aim of creating platforms for foreign investors to visit our region, to create opportunities for local outfits and individuals to partner with investors, and enable the activation of development-oriented projects to create jobs and help improve the lives of the people in the upper West region.”
“For this purpose and by my own efforts, I have traveled extensively in the United Arab Emirates, United States of America, and other foreign regions to meet with potential investors, to lobby and establish business prospects, including infrastructure project developments for the various districts in the Upper West Region,” the statement added.
Kuoro Baninye II stated that some of his efforts to create thriving businesses and job creation in the region, “has taken time and has birthed great prospects as we have, in this year, 2025, various investment groups scheduled to arrive in Ghana for the sole purpose of visiting the Upper West region to consider and activate various projects.”
He noted that the activation of the Ghana Chapter of the Commonwealth Women Network, which is an organization fully accredited by the Commonwealth of Nations, gives him an opportunity as the president to lobby for international scholarships and other opportunities for women and girls in all eleven districts in the Upper West Region.

"I have, with my personal efforts, laid a good foundation, internationally, to help bring in relevant opportunities for the potential benefit of the various districts, assembly members, fellow chiefs and our region as a whole, as we collaborate for our common good.”
Kuoro Baninye II mentioned that the position will help ensure that the region is well represented at the national level and will create better leverage for the efforts he has been making for the betterment of the region and Ghana as a whole.
The astute Kuoro, has a vision to influence and contribute to the activation of a minimum 10 major infrastructural, business and philanthropic projects and initiatives in the Upper West Region by 2028.
Kuoro Baninye II outlined some major project areas that he will focus on to bring development to the region.
Activation of Shea butter processing infrastructures to enhance mass production, and streamline process and commercialization internationally.
Activation of International Diaspora village projects through foreign partnerships to enhance economic growth and tourism in the Upper West Region.
Construction and activation of libraries, computer labs, recreational centers, and sports facilities in various communities, through business and philanthropic initiatives, to enhance engagement of the youth in studies and for the display, development, and harnessing of athletic potentials.
Initiation of various effective private exchange programs for teachers and students from various districts to visit, engage and gather useful experiences from academic bodies in different countries to help build relevant exposure to impact our local academic ecosystem.
Establishment of various MOUs with foreign outfits to great the platform for skilled young men who desire to work abroad, to achieve their aim without being subjected to compromised compensations.
Establishment of strong unified and collaborative sister-city partnerships to empower our assemblies by positioning assembly members to address essential needs and challenges, and to work on community-specific projects for a common sustainable growth and benefit.
Activation of private vocational training projects in various communities through philanthropic initiatives to ensure the development of talents and careers.
Major investments in farming projects
Establishment of a routine media engagement with assembly members and traditional leaders for regional promotion, and presentation of districts-specific challenges.
Major investments in tourism-centered projects focused on the refurbishment and commercialization of old tourist site.
The Electoral Commission had scheduled the election of Regional Representatives of the Council of State on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
