Next NDC gov’t will improve the FSHS programme-John Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the next NDC government would improve the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme.

According to him, the NDC administration will give funds directly to the senior high schools to buy their food from the market instead of the current system where the funds are given to the National Food Buffer Stock Company to provide the schools with food.

He noted that the current system does not allow headmasters of SHS to buy food from the market if the Buffer Stock Company does not provide them with food.

“That is going to change so that our children can get better food in the schools,” he added.

Mr Mahama made the statement when he addressed the chiefs and people of Goripie in the Wa East constituency on day one of his three-day campaign tour of the Upper West Region.

“In education we are going to come and improve the free senior high school programme. Instead of giving the money to buffer stock to send food to the secondary schools, we are going to give the money directly to the secondary schools,” Mr Mahama stated.

The former president mentioned that the next NDC government would cancel the double-track system.

Mr Mahama mentioned that the next NDC government will complete the abandoned E-blocks across the country to create more space for more children to gain admission into secondary education.

He claimed that parents today spend more money on their children under FSHS than when it was not free.
