The Northern Electricity Department (NED) of the Volta River Authority in the Upper West Region had been facing an issue with uncollected debts from customers, including various government agencies and ministries.
The debts owed by these institutions had been piling up for months, affecting the operations of Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
The customers in the region are owing the electricity company over GHS100 million.
This was made known by the Area Manager, Mr Francis Yormesor, during the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) engagement with service providers and customers in the Upper West Region to seek and address concerns of utility consumers in the region.
Mr Yormesor explained that despite various attempts made by NEDCo to get their debts paid, these government agencies and ministries remained unresponsive.
The accumulated debts had reached a staggering amount, and it had become a significant challenge for them to continue its operations in the region.
Mr Yormesor called on the government agencies and ministries concerned to pay their debts and avoid further delays that could hamper the work of NEDCO.
He added that the NEDCo's issue with uncollected debts from government agencies and ministries highlighted the importance of timely payments for the smooth functioning of essential services.
