A significant cross-section of residents in the Nadowli-Kaleo district has voiced strong support for Madam Mary Haruna, the nominee for the district chief executive (DCE) position. As the constituency women organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency , Haruna’s candidacy has sparked discussions about her potential role in leading local development efforts.

Speaking to Info Radio, a group of enthusiastic women and men from Kaleo, the hometown of Madam Haruna, expressed their confidence in her capabilities to spearhead development initiatives within the district on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama. The residents highlighted urgent developmental needs such as improved road infrastructure, educational facilities, job creation, and access to potable water.

“We believe that Madam Haruna will prioritize our developmental needs if she is confirmed. She understands our challenges and is committed to finding solutions,” said a local community leader, echoing the sentiments of many in the area.

As the nomination awaits confirmation from assembly members, residents are urging those in the assembly to act swiftly to ensure that Haruna takes office as DCE. They trust that her leadership will usher in a new era of growth and progress for the district.

However, an internal divide within the NDC has emerged concerning Madam Haruna’s nomination. Sources within the party disclosed to Info Radio that several key constituency executives are not in favor of her appointment. An anonymous party source indicated that the chances of her confirmation remain uncertain due to a lack of widespread support among assembly members, many of whom hold allegiance to the NDC.

In response to the growing concerns, the NDC constituency chairman, Mr. Songbawiera Sankara Samba, reaffirmed the party’s respect for President Mahama’s nominee. He stated, “While there are differing opinions, we will strive to facilitate Madam Haruna’s confirmation. Our primary goal is to ensure that the residents of Nadowli-Kaleo benefit from the NDC’s reset agenda and experience meaningful development.”

Info Radio sources also revealed disappointment among some party leaders regarding the nomination process.

Three shortlisted candidates Mr. Timothy Diedeme, the constituency secretary , Mr. Dakurah Joseph Tierong and Mr. Lampson Adams Justice were reportedly not considered by the president for the DCE position, raising questions about the decision to appoint a candidate who did not make it onto the final regional interview shortlist .

As the situation develops, all eyes remain on the assembly members of the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency, who are faced with the crucial decision of confirming Madam Haruna's appointment as district chief executive.

Residents hope to see their voices heard as they advocate for a leader capable of addressing the pressing needs of the area.
