NABH graduates 18 hairdressers as President calls for parental support

The president of the National Association of Beauticians and Hairdressers (NABH) in Wa West, Madam Ashaitu Fuseini urged apprentices’ caretakers and parents to supervise their children during work.

According to her, caretakers or parents do not care about their children at the workplace.  The Vieri Zone of the NABH graduated 18 hairdressers at its maiden graduation ceremony held in Vieri.

Madam Ashaitu said caretakers or parents should supervise their apprentices at least twice within the three years they have at work. She, therefore, appeals to parents or caretakers to provide food for their apprentices to keep them at work.

“When parents or caretakers bring their wards to us after paying their entrance fee, you will not see them again until it is time for graduation. However, caretakers or parents need to visit their wards during their training time to find out from their masters whether their wards are taking their training seriously. This stage is important to us as masters and even the apprentice.

“After paying their training fees, also try and provide them with food as they come to work. Most of them come to work without food, and in a year's time, you see them with children and their attention is divided,” Madam Ashaitu.

She expressed concern that most of the apprentices abandoned the training after writing exams for reasons that they were looking for funds for their passing out ceremony. She encouraged the apprentices to take the work seriously even after writing their exams.

The Wa West District Girls Child Coordinator, Madam Hawawu Daari, has expressed gratitude to the NABH Association executives for establishing the Vieri Zone. She indicated it would help reduce travel costs. She, however, decried young girls abandoning school to join the trade.
