Lawra Traditional Area celebrates Kobine festival

The Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area, Naa Puowelle Karbo III, has expressed gratitude to Non-governmental Organisations for supporting the government’s efforts in developing the municipality.

He said that despite the many interventions of the government, it cannot achieve much without the support of the NGOs.  Naa Karbo gave the commendation during the Kobine festival celebration by the Chiefs and people of the Lawra Traditional Area.

The annual festival is held to express gratitude to the ancestors for a bountiful harvest and to honour the perseverance of farmers despite recent agricultural challenges.

This year’s celebration is on the theme: “Recognizing the impact of all the NGOs and development partners in the development of the Lawra traditional area”. Naa Karbo indicated that the theme was in recognition of the impact of NGOs on national development.

“Aware of the support of many NGO’s, charities and other development partners in delivering vital services in the area of agriculture, education, health and social inclusion all in support of government efforts. It is to recognize and appreciate the role of such stakeholders in the development of the traditional area that we have decided to celebrate Kobine festival under the theme “Recognizing the impact of all the NGOs and development partners in the development of the Lawra traditional area”.

The chief also reminded government of some stalled development projects in the area including the TVET project at Toma and the Dikpe Bridge project.

“It is regrettable to observe that these projects have not seen any progress by way of project implementation and I wish therefore to appeal once again to the implementing agancies to expedite action to complete these projects for the benefit of the people,” he stated.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the NPP flagbearer, emphasized the important role of NGOs in the country's development across various sectors.

The Kobine festival celebration was attended by people from diverse backgrounds, including Burkina Faso, and featured impressive cultural performances and a hunting expedition.
