Lambussie Young Stars have claimed their first-ever victory at the 5th Edition of the Azumah Resources Ghana Limited Volleyball Tournament, defeating Nadowli Spring Fingers 2-0 in the final.
The 5th edition of the tournament, held from November 16 to 17, brought together eight formidable teams from the Upper West Region for two days of intense competition.
The tournament was hosted at the Nadowli Spring Fingers and McCoy Astro Turf volleyball courts, marking its fifth consecutive season at these venues.
Participating teams included Spring Fingers (Nadowli), Supreme Fingers (Wa), City Stars (Wa), Mighty Fingers, Infinite Mercies (Wa), The Hoppers (Jirapa), Mighty Hands (Nandom), and the victorious Lambussie Young Stars.
The defending champions, City Stars, faced an early exit in the group stages, paving the way for new contenders to shine. Lambussie Young Stars seized the opportunity, displaying exceptional skill and teamwork to secure the championship title.
Speaking at the end, Mr. Solomon Dery, Senior Community Relations Officer of Azumah Resources Ghana Limited, highlighted the tournament’s importance in fostering goodwill and strengthening relationships between the company and the local communities.
He said their goal is to build lasting connections through sports. He added that the tournament has become a symbol of unity and development for the communities.
Upper West Regional National Sports Authority Director, Mr. Biliguo John, lauded Azumah Resources for their dedication to promoting sports in the region. He encouraged the participating teams to continue taking the tournament seriously and strive for excellence in future editions.
The winner of the tournament took home a cash prize of GH₵1500.00.
Mr Babeanu Ridwan, the Head Coach for Lambusie Young Star, expressed his happiness after winning the tournament and stated that they were going to train harder to defend the title next season.
Mr. Ngnebanbu Wilfred, the Head Coach for the Spring Fingers, expressed his disappointment after losing the title to Lambusie Young Stars.
The Azumah Resources Ghana Limited Volleyball Tournament continues to grow as a platform for showcasing local talent and uniting communities through the spirit of sportsmanship.
